Endlich normale Leute
Dualsense investieren

:ugly:

The first big PlayStation 5 system update has arrived and *finally* it's possible to archive off PS5 games to external storage. But there's actually a bunch more useful features added - some revealed by Sony in pre-release PR, others that are a little more surprising. John and Rich discuss.

Since the system’s launch in November 2020, users have reported an issue which results in PS5 discs spinning at various intervals, often loudly.

Some users have said it happens on the hour every hour, while others claimed to have experienced it every 15-20 minutes.

While it has been speculated that the spinning could be part of an authentication process, it reportedly occurs even when the inserted disc isn’t in use.

One unannounced feature of the update is an improvement to the disc spinning bug, according to a number of PS5 users.

“I can confirm that this stupid issue is finally fixed by Sony,” one wrote on Reddit. “New system update 2021-04-14 solved the problem 🙂 Well it still does the disc check but very quiet.”

“I Think they semi fixed it,” a PS5 owner said on Resetera. “It still spins but its only 2 very faint wrrrs and then it goes back down.”

“Yeah, it definitely seems quieter when doing those checks,” said another player. “It’s still pretty damn loud when installing a game (I uninstalled and reinstalled Demon’s Souls so I could check this), but the ‘license check’ or whatever it might be is much quieter now.”

Another user concurred: “I turned on my PS5 after the update and launched Ghost of Tsushima with the Miles Morales disc in the drive, I heard it spin only during the initial startup of the console, and then nothing for over an hour.

What's the best way to expand your PlayStation 5 with external storage? Can you retain the loading speeds of PS4 games running on the internal SSD? Is there any advantage to choosing a more expensive NVMe drive over a SATA model? How long does it take to transfer data to and from each drive? Tom Morgan did all of the testing for this one and Rich presents - and there are results both expected and unexpected.

Reports indicate the DualSense's vibration is now more pronounced when playing PS4 games. Since the PS5 came out in November, it's felt like the vibration on the DualSense when playing PS4 games was weak compared to how it feels when playing PS4 games on an actual PS4. Obviously, the rumble created by the DualSense, which uses haptic feedback tech, is different than the rumble created by the DualShock 4's motors.

It appears that now, post-update, the feedback you get from the DualSense more closely emulates the feeling of DualShock 4 rumble - when playing PS4 games, that is.

"In games like Rocket League and God of War, it's made a valuable difference," redditor TJangoRechained said.

"After playing games in backwards compatibility for five months, it's something I noticed right away. I don't get why it wasn't mentioned in their notes like everything else. Maybe they plan to perfect it even more over time."

"Played Ratchet and Clank PS4 last couple of days and didn't get that much feedback," _Shad0wo3 said. "Tried it today, after the update, and the controller was very responsive."

I'm not sure why Sony wouldn't announce a change like this. It feels like it would be well-received! But then Sony's never been one to dish the dirt with its patch notes, leaving plenty for the community to work out itself.

Recently, we notified players that PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices was planned to end this summer.

Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.

When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on.
We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.

I’m glad that we can keep this piece of our history alive for gamers to enjoy, while we continue to create cutting-edge new game worlds for PS4, PS5, and the next generation of VR.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us – we’re always listening and appreciate the support from our PlayStation community.
