"There's a war you don't see.The one fought in the shadows. The war beneath the war.”

Command an elite squad through a gritty and authentic story set during the twilight of the Clone Wars in STAR WARS Zero Company™, a single-player turn-based tactics game developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games.
Step into the shoes of Hawks, a former Republic officer who leads Zero Company - an unconventional outfit of professionals for hire hailing from across the galaxy. Hawks and Zero Company are recruited for an operation that pits them against an emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked. To succeed, Hawks will lead a team of uneasy allies who must set aside their differences to overcome nearly impossible odds.

Zero Company offers the perspective to help appreciate it: Outside combat, you have full third-person action-adventure control of your customizable point-of-view character, Hawks. Before the fighting starts, you could be forgiven for thinking this is an action spinoff of Respawn's Jedi: Fallen Order. In addition to being a great tactics game, there's a lot of chew here for fans of RPGs, or even just someone looking for a top of the line, well-told Star Wars story.
"The gameplay is what it is about," argued Foertsch. "But depth doesn't cost you elegance. You can absolutely have [graphics and storytelling], and not to mention, this genre in particular, you should have those things." He pointed out that, theoretically, you could turn off all of Zero Company's cinematic camera work, look at the action entirely from a birdseye view, and it would technically still have the same gameplay—but it wouldn't feel anywhere near as good.
Zero Company doesn't yet have a release date, but it's slated to come out this year. The game seems on track for that; some placeholder elements and visual bugs aside, it looked almost ready for prime time with most of 2026 left to go. I think it's going to be a contender: Going back to Foertsch's thesis, it doesn't feel like any tactical or strategic depth has been sacrificed in Bit Reactor's pursuit of storytelling and presentation.

Star Wars Zero Company surprised us. When ‪@EAStarWars‬ invited PC Gamer to be one of the first outlets in the world to play their new game, Ted Litchfield went in with high expectations - a Clone Wars tactics game made by former XCOM and Jedi Survivor devs is a slam drunk - but even these were surpassed. It blends the familiar combat of XCOM with sumptuous third-person action-adventure storytelling, and a healthy dose of Mass Effect style RPG management, and could be a game of the year contender.
